If you are a serious computer gamer, staying cool isn't optional.

You're playing the Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim or Diablo III and right when you're about to get deep up in it, your computer starts making a weird noise, the screen goes blank, and your computer crashes. You sit silently staring at your monitor for a few moments. You begin to shake your fists violently at the sky, cursing guttorally at the gods for failing to protect your game's progress and you have no idea how long it will take you to get back to this point!

Sound familiar?

Running games on your laptop or computer takes up a lot of processing space on your computer, which causes your computer to have to work harder. Because of this the fan also works harder, and if you have a poor quality cooling fan in your computer there is a risk of your computer overheating and crashing without warning.

Overheating is not a good thing for your computer. For one, a computer that overheats can suffer long term damage, or could even be ruined and in a state of no repair. Just because you play high quality games on your computer doesn't have to mean you’re putting your computer at risk, however. The solution is simple: get a better, higher quality cooling fan.

Some of the newer computers on the market were specially made for gaming, and may come with a cooling fan that is of high quality. Many people aren't that lucky however, and these people have no clue that their gaming requires a better cooling fan. People like this can go to their local electronic store and ask someone who works their about their top of the line cooling fans. Another solution is purchasing online, which usually ends up being the cheaper option, especially if you can get free shipping. www.nmbtc.com has a wide selection of high-performance cooling fans.

Once you get your new cooling fan you have two options. The first option is to have someone install the cooling fan for you. This can be a local electronic store for example, where you know that the job will get done right. If you’re lucky and have a friend who is good with computers and electronics, you might have some luck having them install the cooling fan for you.

The more cost effective option is to do it yourself. It is not too difficult to install the cooling fan yourself, and it will certainly save you a chunk of change. First, make sure the computer is unplugged and no power supply is routed to it to reduce chance of electric shock. Next, open the case to your computer, and unplug the power supply to the motherboard. Make sure you remember where it was plugged in, or you may have a hard time remembering where to plug it in later.

Next, remove the current cooling fan. This may be held in place by simple easy to remove clips, or by screws that you can remove by using a screwdriver. The next thing you'll want to do is install your new cooling fan right where the old one was.

Lastly, plug the motherboard back in and replace the cover to your computer. Plug everything back in and enjoy your new cooling fan.

Installing a new cooling fan is an easy, much needed process. Many gamers don't realize how much their games stress their computers. They can really heat the processor up to unsafe temperatures and cause a lot of damage. To help stop this, a new cooling fan is needed.

If you find that you need help installing your fan take it to an electronics store or a friend who is knowledgeable in this area.

Remember, this small investment will pay off big.

So you have a brother, uncle, best friend that will take care of your computer virus? I hear this a lot but in reality where did you get that virus from, perhaps the same person that is trying to remove it.

Many viruses can come into a computer without you even knowing and one day you say something is not right. A computer came into the other day with complaints of being slow. No popups, no browser issues, just slow and unresponsive. After a quick review onsite I knew something was up and it needed attention, more than what I could provide there. I brought it back to the shop and started to work on it.

I backed up all of the customer's data first of course and then moved into the virus removal. I found about 10 Trojan viruses and rebooted the system. Next up was fighting a blue screen of death. I was able to get around this by using Window's boot with last known good configuration. Now the fun begins!

The machine now booted, quicker and was responsive now but here came the popups and the browswer redirects, going to every site in the world except for the ones I wanted to go to. Turns out there were 5 Rootkits embedded into the operating system. It took about 6 hours total and got the machine back in the same day but keep in mind:

Computer Virus Removal - Easier said than done.

An email came to me and thought a good time to post my procedure for Virus/Malware protection. My answer was simple and I stand by this and have made many customers happy!

Dear Customer,

In my experience the Security Suites have not been kind to my clients. The pure fact is that when a computer is infected there is usually a suite (Norton or Mcafee) that has failed them and more harm is done.I do not recommend a Suite by one company at this time. What I install and recommend is a two application system that is lite and very good at protecting my customers. I use a combination of Microsoft Security Essentials and Super Anti Spyware Professional. This combats Spyware/Malware and Viruses, with a high level of success. I stand by this and in the last year no customer has come back with a reinfection that has purchased this 'Combo'.

Please let me know if you would like to have me install it for you.

<g:plusone count="true" size="small"></g:plusone>Answer that is!

What a great tool I use over here. I use a service called Show me whats wrong. This is a very simple service that I use to help diagnose things that are wrong with clients computers before I even look at them!

What happens is that I provide the link: http://is.gd/AnyProblem and the client goes to this site and within a couple seconds the website starts an interface for the user to start recording their screen. Now you can show me any errors, events, popups, virus warnings, the list goes on and on.

This is an invaluable tool that takes only a few seconds to record and send, then I can review it and start to fix your issue!

Want to give it a try? I can fix your PC with ease!

Here is a Screencast:

Guest post by: Eric Salce of Gem State Computers

Everyone loves a new gadget, but the pressures of buying a new phone can sometimes be very confusing. For instance you go to the local mall to look around and you are greeted with a hand full of carriers or service providers, and with what feels like hundreds of phones. How do you pick one? By following a few simple steps, you can sort though the stacks of phones, and pick the best one for you.
Step 1: Get flexible with your preconceived notions, Your friends tell you to buy an IPhone, or they tell you Sprint is the place to be, this is good place to start looking, but if sprint does not have service in your area, or you cannot figure out how the iPhone works, then they are not for you.

Step 2: Pick your carrier, not all carriers are created equal. Service is the backbone of any good phone, after all what good is a phone if it will not work. Do a little research what carrier works best where you live, and travel.
Step 3: Do you need a smart phone? Sure Smart Phones are great but they are not for everyone. There is typically an extra charge for the data portion of the smart phone, and if all you want to do is Text and Talk on a phone, they may not be for you, and this will decrease your choices to a handful of handsets.

Step 4: what are the features that you want in your new phone, for most of us, a phone needs to last eighteen to twenty four months. So I say don’t short change yourself, or you may end up regretting it later. You can pick the screen size, If there is a keyboard or not, speed of the phone, and the speed of the internet.

Step 5: Do Some comparing, By now you have you choices down to about five phones, Now do some looking around, and check the reviews for the handsets you are looking into. After all you don’t want to buy a phone that is plagued with problems. Amazon is a great place for reviews.

Step 6: Is the most important, Make the purchase and love your new phone. Most retailers have a fifteen to thirty day return policy, if the phone is not everything you think it should be then return it and get one that will be. After all, the phone will be by your side for the next two years.

As you can see if you take the time to follow these steps you will find that buying a new phone cannot only be stress free but also fun. By taking your time in selecting a phone not only will you not fall into the trap of following the sales person around the store, but also the choice you make will be your own.

Hello All

I have had the un-fun experience of trying to make a apple into a orange this past week. I had a concept in my head of what I was wanting a website to look like and I kept telling myself I can make a simple WordPress site look like it. I am not extremely dumb or a slow fellow but boy I felt like I was after 2+ hours of banging my fat fingers on my keyboard.

I truly believe and agree WordPress is one of the most simple solutions but I am always reminded when I forget some things are on opposite ends of a un bendable pole and you can only have/use one end at a time. When it comes to a CMS (content management system) for websites it is either simple or setup and use (aka easy) or it is wide open to changes of format, structure and layout (aka hard)

And I made the mistake of thinking I could hammer a square peg into a round hole and I failed, I failed hard, so it looks like I am going to uninstall WordPress from my site and go with another CMS system, of which the choices are great.

I could use ohh a hundred or so other PHP/MySQL based CMS’s http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_content_management_systems#PHP I believe I am going to use Drupal, I honestly believe it has the most to offer someone on my level, someone who understands code but is not a coder, someone who understands basic plug architecture and someone who really (no realllly) couldn’t design a proper layout to a site to save my life.

I have used Drupal 2-3 times before and sure I had painful experiences but the Drupal community is vast and rich with knowledge, so finding solutions is possible just sometimes you have to do a little digging and if you ever have to get into a file on your server and do some editing it always seems to be very well documented.

So in the end I do believe WordPress is a great product and can be the backend on great sites, I just think if you have a concept that looks “too different” from the basic theme you either have to become a php/theme/Wordpress hacker or dig into your pockets and pay a site/service to step in and do the dirty work

….. now if I could only decide on a good theme …. I might go with this one http://demo.symphonythemes.com/index.php?theme=conch
Thanks

Now what? That depends on the device. Follow the steps below to minimize your chances of damage to your device.

Immediately pull the battery. Can’t get to the battery? Turn it off and get it to someone who can take it apart. DO NOT turn it back on, charge it, or try to use it!! Pull the device apart as much as you can and set the individual parts in rice or some other dry grain to help pull the moisture out of it. DO NOT try and dry it with a compressor or hair dryer this will only force the liquid deeper into the device. DO NOT put it in an oven or under a heat lamp. The heat will only speed up the corrosion or your electronics. Do flip it upside down so it can drain out the same way it got in.

The main thing is to have a plan and to know how and what to do if your device(s) get wet/immersed. Learn how to get the batteries out. Take off your phone case and put it back on a couple of times. It can be harder than you think, and those things trap water really well…
